History
Thomson Litho was founded nearly 40 years ago by Matt Thomson M.B.E, originally a printer.
Thomson Litho has enjoyed continued expansion and development of its services into kitting,
supply chain management and basically servicing all aspects of our customers’ needs. Today we
are one of Europe’s leading ‘Total Solutions’ companies supporting many of the world's High Tec
companies. Thomson Litho remains privately owned, with Matt Thomson the Chairman and his four
sons running the day-to-day business.

Some milestones in Thomson Litho’s history:
2006
- Awarded BSEN ISO 9000:2001 and ISO 14001:2004 accreditations.
2004
- Increased Sales focus on Book Publishing Houses and consumer electronics industry.
- Awarded BSEN ISO 9000:2000 accreditation.
2001

Opened Manufacturing Facility In Czech Republic. Thomson Litho established a manufacturing
facility in the Czech Republic to support migration of PC and electronics manufacturing to
Eastern Europe. This was the first site in Eastern Europe to be awarded Microsoft Authorised
Replicator status, again showing our continued commitment to our customers and their markets.
Our 2 manufacturing facilities can support the whole of Europe with aggressive lead-times and servicing.

Received Queens’ Award for Enterprise The Queens’ Award for Enterprise was awarded to Thomson Litho
for continued expansion in exports within Europe and the rest of the world. In 2001 Thomson Litho
exported to over 30 countries for the first time.

BSI 14001 Whilst now taken as industry standard, Thomson Litho was forward-leading by being the first
Scottish printing company to be awarded this prestigious environmental standard.

Scottish Enterprise Award The Scottish Enterprise Award was awarded to Thomson Litho for over 30 years
continued expansion and being one of Scotland’s largest private employers.

Acquisition of Variquik International Ltd It made perfect sense for Thomson Litho to acquire Variquik
International Ltd when it became available in 2000. Variquik manufactured and serviced web feed printing
presses, Thomson Litho already ran 4 of these presses, and subsequently we have added a further 2 machines to
our manufacturing plant. Variquik International Ltd continues to service all their machines worldwide.
1996

Opened Customer Support Facility in Holland. As our European customer base expanded, we opened a second
satellite Sales and Customer Support office. This has since been superseded by our Czech Republic facility

BSI 9002 Thomson Litho was one of the first Printers in Scotland to be awarded this quality standard.
It gave the High Tec sector the assurance that Thomson Litho was at the forefront of quality control and
were passionate about the quality of products and services supplied.
1990

Became a Distributor of Microsoft Software and Printed Product This accreditation opened the door to the
PC manufacturing industry. Originally supplying just printed product, Thomson Litho expanded rapidly to
support all aspects of this growing market.

Opened Sales Office & Customer Support Facility in London to ensure that our customers based in the South East
have local and instant access to Thomson Litho. While embracing the communications revolution we have never lost
sight of the benefits of face-to-face contact.
